Statement My work usually begins with sketching a rough draft. After that I draw the life size version and use that as my pattern. While I work with the pattern in mind, I will sometimes make changes along the way. I don’t always know right away if a piece I’m working on is finished. If I’m unsure, I leave it on my design wall so that I can see it everyday. Sometimes it will tell me it needs something here or there while other times it tells me nothing, at which point, I decide it’s done. When people see my work, I hope to provoke a smile and they find pleasure in looking at the colors and designs I have put together. I enjoy working mostly with bright colors. They seem so happy and inviting. Nature is one of my biggest inspirations. My main influences can be found by taking a walk in my yard. I enjoy flower gardening and my cats always provide endless smiles and design ideas. I like to have fun and try to incorporate some whimsy in my work. I am filled with a sense of happiness, satisfaction and pride when I create a successful piece of art. My future goals include a continuing love affair with working in my studio and it’s contents and shaping those materials into works of art. I hope to continue this journey as long as possible and am always eager to try something new along the way. |

Statement I rarely work in flat surfaces except during the initial design process, which for me is usually just a list of scribbled notes on a page in my notebook. I enjoy working in 3D and creating sculptural objects, such as boxes or vases, or functional ones like journals and sketchbooks. The challenge of taking a flat surface created with paper, fabric or a combination of both and giving it form to stand on its own is incredibly exciting to me. My goal is not to create a perfect and flawless item. It is to create a piece that excites the viewers eyes when they look at it, makes them wonder when they hold it in their hands and inspires their own imagination when they consider how it was created.
