Class Description: If you took my first class in the
Journal Making for the Fiber Artist series then you already know how
much fun it is to create your own journals and sketchbooks. In
this class we’ll explore even more ways to create journals that use
traditional book binding techniques adapted to work with fabric and
fiber. There is no prerequisite for this class, it is not necessary to
have taken the Journal Making for the Fiber Artist class before taking
this one.
Lesson 1: For our first lesson we’ll be working with a
tri-fold design. We’ll
make a couple different versions of this journal varying the shape and
size.
Lesson 2: This week is all about the Coptic binding
technique. Although this week’s journal cover is not fabric
based, we’ll be incorporating fabric pages into the signatures.
Lesson 3: We’re going to make an accordion spine
journal this week that has envelope signatures filled with individual
mini journals.
Lesson 4: This week we’re making a bifold journal that
has three signatures on the inside and lots pockets. You’ll
learn an easy way to make your own hand coiled, wire bound books without
having to purchase any special binding machines.
Lesson 5: The piano hinge creates a unique and
interesting binding to any journal. Although it looks terribly
complex to create it’s really quite easy and you’ll have fun finding
different items to use for the hinges.
